Free Writing for Military and Families Class
Ages: 18+
Day of the Week: Mondays
Time: 6:00pm -7:30pm
September 8 - October 13 (6 Weeks)
Location: Newton Military Family Resource Center
Instructor: Taylor Emery
The class is limited to 15 students.
Class Description:
Writing for Military and Families is open to all military personnel, veterans, and their family members. The course will focus on the basics of creative writing—which includes examining various writing practices, exploring the distinction between genres, engaging in different workshop styles, etc.—and how to workshop constructively and collaboratively.
This is not a grammar course, but students should have an understanding of the English language and its usage. Students can write about any subject matter and in any genre or style, so writing about their experience with the military and/or its impact on their lives is welcome but not required. Work generated prior to the beginning of the class is also welcome, and students will have the opportunity to read and share with the class, where they will receive feedback from the instructor and other students. Students may also be given writing prompts and challenges in order to generate work during class time.
