Data Science Camp 2025

Austn Peay State University (APSU) is excited to introduce the Data Science Camp for rising 4th-8th graders.
APSU is ready to launch its first data science camp-themed Budding Data Scientist, running from June 2-6, 2025.
The camp, designed for rising 4th-8th graders will be a h alf-day (1:30 pm - 4:30 pm), weeklong day camp focused on statistics and other data science-related topics.
The camp will provide campers with the opportunity to participate in fun, hands-on group activities that introduce them to the limitless world of data.  Campers will learn how to collect and unlock insights from data, appreciate the power of data snytax while building confidence and awareness in science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) skils.
Campers will also learn critical thinking, problem solving, teamwork and approach challenges liek a data slueth by:
- Asking the right questions
- Collecting information
- Analyzing data
- Displaying results
Students will:
- Collect and record data using standard and non-standard measurements.
- Display data through tables, charts, and graphs.
- Identify trends patterns and draw comparisons from data.
- Make data driven predictions
- Present data insights.
- Some of the camp activities include exploring the proportions of Skittle colors, moving rating analysis, examining food labels, and building ball launchers, etc.
Camp Details
Drs. Ramanjit Sahi, Mary Akinyemi, Ibukun Amusan and Masum Bhuiyan of the APSU Department of Mathematics and Statistics will lead the camp.
The camp will be held from June 2 - 6, 2025, from 1:30 - 4:30 p.m., and is $59 for the week with supplies and snacks provided. 
Parents will need to drop off and pick up the students at the  Maynard Lobby located in the Maynard Math and Computer Science Building.
Students are encouraged to bring a refillable water bottle.

Camp capacity is limited to 20 campers.  Spots are available on a first-come, first served basis.  A waitlist is offered but does not guarantee placement.
